Known even before his actual birth,
John's friendship with Jesus was bonded on earth.
Preparing the way, by God appointed,
The Son of Man to be anointed.

God's message of salvation
Preparing hearts to receive;
Holy Messiah living with us,
If we but only believe.

I repent of my sins, so depraved,
Forgiveness I seek by your grace;
Claim my heart from its wilderness,
To find peace in your dwelling place.

Toss me with your winnowing fork,
Blow all the chaff away;
Cleanse me with redeeming blood,
Mold this lump of clay.

Lord, refine my heart with your truth,
May I be wheat for your store;
Gather me to that Promised Land,
Claimed from your threshing floor.

Come Spirit Dove of holiness
Baptize me in faithful surrender,
'Til my heart leaps with your delight,
My soul completely tendered.
